Youth Media and Action Summit Showcase (Photos)

Two youth organizations have partnered to present the first ever “Summer 2013 Youth Media and Action Summit” from August 5 – 7 in Silver Spring.

Participants work will be showcased in the Great Hall at the Silver Spring Civic Center August 7 at 5 p.m. The showcase is open to the public.

The Summit is a three-day social justice themed film festival and conference. Youth filmmakers and community activists will share issue-oriented media, spark dialogue, inspire action and develop collaborative projects. Topics will include homelessness, identity, education reform, immigration, bullying and others. Participants will learn script writing, acting, spoken word, narrative and documentary filmmaking technique and will work collaboratively to complete media projects.

Gandhi Brigade of Silver Spring and Reel Works Teen Filmmaking of Brooklyn, NY youth and staff joined together to create this summit.
