WSSC Warns Customers of New Scam

wsscWashington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) employees are warning customers of a new scam targeting Washington area residents.

According to a WSSC news release, scam artists are calling residents offering a fraudulent water discount.

If you receive such a call, you are asked to report it to the authorities immediately.

WSSC wants customers to know it does not offer discounts on water.

Customers receiving unsolicited calls should never provide any personal information, including your WSSC account number.

If you think you have fallen victim to a scam or received a suspicious call follow these steps:

-Call your local police department and report the incident.
-If caller ID is available, note the number and provide to police.
-Call the WSSC customer service at 301.206.4001.

WSSC is working with other Washington area utilities to help inform customers about the scam. At least one similar incident has been reported in Northern Virginia.
