WSSC Reports Sewer Main Break in Boyds
A 14-inch pressurized sewer main break was reported on Monday morning at the Hoyles Mill Wastewater Pumping Station in Montgomery County.
According to a Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) news release, an investigation indicates the break occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. and it is possible that more than 10,000 gallons of untreated wastewater was spilled.
WSSC crews have located the break at 15001 Hoyles Mill Road in Boyds and are trying to recover as much spilled wastewater as possible while the repairs are being made.
The sewer spill occurred on a grassy area near the pumping station, according to WSSC, and the untreated wastewater did not enter any bodies of water.
The Maryland Department of the Environment and the Montgomery County Health Department have been notified of the spill, according to WSSC.
In addition, signs have also been posted around the area informing residents of the spill.
