WSSC Reminds Customers with Gas Appliances
WSSC reminds customers with gas appliances to have them inspected and regularly maintained. Carbon monoxide can escape into the home if gas appliances are not functioning correctly.
Furnaces and hot water heaters that are powered by natural gas are vented into the home’s chimney, making it essential to keep the systems cleaned and maintained. Carbon monoxide is deadly and can escape into the home if gas appliances or the home’s chimney is not working correctly.
CO is an odorless gas that could be present if a gas powered appliance system begins to malfunction. Just like smoke alarms, CO monitors can be life-savers. WSSC recommends they be installed in any home with gas powered appliances. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services provides more information on CO monitors upon request.
New gas appliances must be inspected by WSSC within 10 days of installation.
WSSC permits and inspection are required for these new/replaced gas appliances:
- Furnaces and boilers
- Water heaters (Tank type or Tankless)
- Gas logs
- Dryers
- Ranges and cook tops
- Outside gas grills (if attached to natural or propane gas)
- Gas lights
- Fireplaces
- Room heaters and generators.
