WSSC Continues Repair Work on Water Mains

Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) reports that utility technicians are making progress repairing broken water mains. Unfortunately, pipes are continuing to break despite the rise in temperature.

The latest broken main count in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties is 60. Crews have repaired 18 mains since yesterday afternoon, but another 14 mains have been added to the repair queue in that same timeframe.

The Potomac and Patuxent Rivers provide WSSC with its source water. The temperature of the source water does not change as quickly as the air temperature which is one of the reasons that WSSC’s water mains are continuing to break in relatively high numbers. Water mains, especially older ones, can fail when the temperature of the water going through the pipes fluctuates.

WSSC will continue to have extra repair crews working around the clock until all the water mains are repaired and service has been restored. WSSC realizes it is an inconvenience to be without water and they appreciate the patience of the customers.
