Would-be Thieves Try to Take ATM by Crashing Van Through Front of Store

Rockville police are looking for two men and a woman who crashed a white multi-passenger van through the front of a business in an attempt to steal an ATM, according to the city’s latest crime summary.

The incident occurred between 2:17 a.m. and 2:22 a.m. Monday in the 400 block of Hungerford Drive, the summary says.

After the crash, the driver remained behind the wheel, as two others exited the van and entered the store. Video surveillance shows two people tried to put chains around an ATM in attempts to steal it, the crime summary says.

Because of an approaching vehicle, the would-be thieves were unable to take the ATM. They got back into the van, which left the store and fled the scene.
