Winter Wind Advisories for Montgomery County

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory and wind advisory for Montgomery County.

The wind chill advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. to noon Friday, Jan. 3. The wind advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to noon Friday, Jan. 3.

So what does that mean and what can you expect?

Wind chill – Zero to minus five degrees for lower elevations. Minus five to minus fifteen degrees for elevations above 1,000 feet.

Temperatures – Teens tonight (Jan. 2) and holding nearly steady through Friday morning (Jan. 3).

Winds – 20 to 30 mph with gusts around 50 mph.

Impacts – The combination of cold temperatures and strong winds may lead to frostbite and hypothermia. Wind gusts may lead to scattered tree damage, power line damage and may cause difficulty driving high profile vehicles.

Precautionary/preparedness actions – A wind chill advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. A wind advisory means that wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph are expected. Secure outdoor furniture and use caution driving high profile vehicles.
