Winds Toppled Trees and Wires Across Montgomery County (PHOTOS)
Strong winds toppled trees and wires across Montgomery County on Wednesday afternoon.
Fire and Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer said dispatchers fielded dozens of calls within an hour’s time this afternoon. Piringer said there were no reports of serious injuries.
At 5 p.m., there were over 1,600 Pepco customers without power in Montgomery County, according to online outage maps.
Montgomery County spokesperson Esther Bowring said Department of Transportation crews are responding to several reports of downed trees and limbs that may be fully or partially obstructing a number of roadways throughout the county.
“Crews are working to remove the storm debris and reopen closed roadways as soon as possible,” Bowring said.
A list of impacted roadways follows, below:
- Annapolis Rock Rd.– Tree blocking the road.
- Arcola Ave. closed from Lamberton Dr. to Hoyt St. -Tree down in wires blocking the road.
- Brookville Rd. at Georgia Ave. – Tree down blocking the road Pepco has been contacted.)
- Brunswick at Finch – Blocking road.
- Cashell Rd. – Tree debris in the roadway.
- Cashell Rd. at Bowie Mill -Tree down partially blocking the road.
- Davis Mill – Tree blocking the road.
- Hawkins Creamery– Tree blocking the road.
- Hipsley Mill Rd.– Tree blocking the road.
- Howard Chapel Rd.– Tree blocking the road.
- Lee St. – Tree down on car and in wires crew on site with Pepco.
- Parker Ave. closed from Georgia Ave. to the dead end – Tree down in wires blocking the road.
- Sandsfield Terrace – Tree down blocking road.
- Sundown Rd @ 108 -Tree down wires and road closed near Laytonsville.
- Thornwood @ Everett – Blocking road.
- Warfield @ Apollo Lane -Tree down blocking the road.
- Watkins Meadow -Tree down blocking the road.
