Williams Sentenced to 45 Years for 2017 Rape in Gaithersburg

David L. Williams of Boyds was sentenced to 45 years after pleading guilty to first degree rape in a 2017 assault that Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy called “an incredibly vicious and heinous crime.”

Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Steven Salant also sentenced Williams, 31, to five-years of supervised probation once he is released and required him to register as a sex offender for life. A Dec. 10 hearing is set to determine his financial responsibility for the victim’s medical bills.

Williams pleaded guilty Oct. 4, four years after he targeted a woman as she waited at a bus stop to go to school on Watkins Mill Road near Travis Lane in Gaithersburg. According to court records, he threw the woman down an embankment, forced cocaine into her mouth and raped and beat her before stealing her belongs and leaving her there unconscious and naked.

The victim submitted an impact statement that was placed in the court record. In that statement, she noted, “This incident changed my whole life. I was never able to do the same things as before. My life has been changed totally, emotionally and mentally and financially. I was broken, scared of sitting alone, and I did not clearly remember everything. Once some part I remember and that part also makes me cry and scream in night.”

He was arrested Aug. 7, 2019. According to the Montgomery County Police report, its Police Crime Lab was informed that a DNA sample obtained during an Aug. 7, 2017 attempted residential burglary in Gaithersburg matched the DNA of the person who committed the rape.

Shortly after the rape, police received an anonymous tip that a person who matched Williams’ description was trespassing and living in a stairwell of a self storage facility on Christopher Avenue in Gaithersburg.

According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, the victim was at the bus stop at 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 6, 2017 and a man, later identified as Williams, already was there. He grabbed her from behind and put his hand over her mouth and powder on her face that was determined to be cocaine. He then threw her down a hill where he began to assault her. She felt intense pain before becoming unconscious.

Their report also noted that when she regained consciousness, she was naked except for socks and underwear and that her bag and clothing had been stolen. She walked back to her house and called police, who took her to the hospital. She remained hospitalized for a week and had physical therapy for eight months.
