Shannon Marci Jefferson Lozano | MCPD

A 22-year-old Wheaton woman faces first-degree murder charges in connection with the slaying of her 80-year-old great-grandmother, a Montgomery County police statement said.

Shannon Marci Jefferson Lozano of the 10500 block of Cascade Place apparently lived with her great-grandmother, Doris Elizabeth Shelton.

About 3:20 p.m. Friday, the victim’s husband called 911 to report that he had come home and found his wife unresponsive and not breathing, police said. Police and Fire & Rescue responded to the Cascade Place home and confirmed that Shelton suffered trauma, police said.

Officers began to investigate the death as a homicide, developing Lozano as a suspect, police said. A lookout was placed via police radio for Lozano and Maryland- National Capital Park Police Officers arrested her a short distance from the home, police said.

Investigators interviewed Lozano, who was charged, police said. She is being held without bail, police said.

The victim’s body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to confirm the cause and manner of death.

The circumstances surrounding this homicide remain under investigation. Due to the ongoing investigation, no additional details will be released.
