What’s Open and What’s Not on Labor Day

Montgomery County

Montgomery County government has posted the following holiday schedule for the Labor Day holiday,  Monday, September. 2:

  • County Offices – closed.
  • Libraries – closed on September 1 and 2.
  • County Alcohol Beverage Services – all ABS stores will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Recreation – Aquatics programs and facilities open.  All recreation centers, senior centers and administrative offices are closed. (Note: the Germantown Indoor Swim Center and Kennedy Shriver Aquatic Center are closed for annual maintenance.)
  • Montgomery Parks – For operating schedule, visit www.MontgomeryParks.org.
  • Ride On – Will operate on a Sunday schedule available online, here.
  • Ride On Flex – closed.
  • Metrorail and Metrobus – Information available at www.wmata.com.
  • TRiPS Commuter Store Silver Spring – closed.
  • TRiPS Mobile Commuter store – closed.
  • Refuse/recycling pickup – no collection. After the holiday, collection will slide and be one day later than normal with the last collection on Saturday, September 7. More information available at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/sws/holidays/.
  • The Shady Grove Processing Facility and Transfer Station – closed.
  • Parking at public garages, lots, curbside meters – free.
  • State offices and courts – closed.

Gaithersburg

Most city facilities will be closed on Monday, September. 2, in observance of Labor Day.

  • The Miniature Golf Course will open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • The Water Park will open from Noon to 5 p.m. (11 a.m. – noon for Residents/Aquatics Members ONLY)
  • The Skate Park will open from 3 p.m. to sunset.
  • The Community Museum and Olde Towne Plaza Interactive Water Feature will open from noon to 3 p.m.
  • The synthetic turf field at Lakelands Park will be open for community use from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday of Labor Day Weekend.
  • Note that select streets in Kentlands and Lakelands will be closed and some parking restrictions will be in place for the Kentlands/Lakelands 5K, which takes place on Saturday, August 31.
  • Streets in and around Olde Towne will be closed for the 81st Annual Labor Day Parade, which kicks off at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 2.
  • The collection of recycled materials for residents whose regular recycling day is Monday, September 2, will take place on the preceding Saturday, August 31. This includes newspaper, mixed paper, corrugated cardboard, and commingled materials, as well as  brush, branches, grass clippings, leaves and other yard trimmings, picked up by the City’s recycling contractor.
  • Bulk items are collected by City crews on the first recycling day of the month. Bulk pick up for residents whose regular bulk pick up day is Monday, September 2, will take place the following Monday, September 9.

Rockville

Most city facilities will be closed Monday, September 2, in observance of Labor Day.

  • City Hall – closed.
  • Lincoln Park – closed.
  • Thomas Farm and Twinbrook community centers – closed.
  • Rockville Senior Center – closed.
  • Croydon Creek Nature Center – closed.
  •  Glenview Mansion and F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre – closed.
  • Rockville Swim and Fitness Center will be open. For individual swim and fitness center facilities hours, visit www.rockvillemd.gov/swimcenter.
  • Recycling, trash and yard waste collection will be suspended on September. 2 and made one day later than usual throughout the week, with Thursday collection on Friday, September. 6.   • Parking fees at city-owned meters will be free.
