Friday, Nov. 17

Fool in Love: The Frankie Lymon Story Written and directed by Thomas W. Jones II, presented by Live Garra Theatre with music directed by William Knowles. Before there was Michael Jackson, there was Frankie Lymon, a teenage musical comet. “Fool in Love” chronicles the life of Lymon and includes hits Why Do Fools Fall in Love, Goody Goody, and Little Bitty Pretty One. “Fool in Love” is the musical soundtrack of Frankie Lymon’s life. Art Night Out: Wine & Improv  Theatre professional, Stephanie Phelan, leads an evening of improvisation. No experience needed, just come and enjoy a wine or beer and an evening of laughs. Annie Based on the book by Thomas Meehan. Directed by Jason King Jones, this is the classic tale of Annie, an orphan during the Great Depression in New York City. When billionaire-celebrity Oliver Warbucks requires the presence of an orphan to soften his image, Annie unexpectedly finds a way into his heart. Along the way, Warbucks attempts to help Annie find her lost parents. Recommended for ages 5+. Doubt: A Parable This drama is set in 1964 in the Bronx and focuses on the principal of a Bronx school, Sister Aloysius. She takes matters into her hands when she suspects the young Father Flynn of improper relations with one of the male students. Doubt is a story of suspicion cast on a priest’s behavior that is less about scandal than about questions of moral certainty. The Little Mermaid  Presented by The Damascus Theatre Company. Based on the Hans Christian Andersen story and the Disney film that was produced by Howard Ashman and John Musker and written and directed by John Musker and Ron Clements. The Blues Beatles  This band formed in 2013 when five musicians discovered mixing the Blues and Beatles songs created an amazing sound. The members of the band include Marcos Viana, Gerson Lancaster Ferreira, Flavio Naves, Bruno Falcão and Fred Barley. Nov. 17, 8 p.m. at the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Club, 7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda. bbjlive.com. Omnium Gatherum  A domestic artist and perfect hostess invite an assortment of opinionated personalities to share a meal. The guests confront the global implications of September 11. Saturday, Nov. 18

Over, Under, Through  This art exhibit features sculptures and site-specific installations by three contemporary sculptors whose work focuses on the manipulation of common materials to create new three-dimensional forms. Cedric Williams: Dereliction  Creating environments to support photographic images of sites found in a state of dereliction, Cedric Williams observes the ways in which buildings, surfaces and structures change upon abandonment in this art exhibit. “Mosaics: One Piece at a Time”  This exhibition highlights the breadth of current work from a select group of mosaic artists from across the region.  Featured artists include Bonnie Fitzgerald, Yulia Hanansen, Ali Mirsky, Jane Pettit, Carol Talkov, Meghan Walsh and Roslyn Zinner. On display Oct. 28 – Dec. 9 with Artists’ Reception Nov. 18 6-8 p.m. at Park View Gallery, Glen Echo Park, 7300 MacArthur Blvd. Glen Echo. glenechopark.org. Sammy Miller and the Congregation  A native of Los Angeles, Grammy® nominated drummer Sammy Miller has become known for his unique maturity and relentless focus on making music that feels good as a drummer, singer and bandleader. Upon completing his Master’s at The Juilliard School, Sammy formed his ensemble, The Congregation. As a band, they are focused on sharing the power of community through their music—joyful jazz. Sunday, Nov. 19

Wedding Vendor Showcase  Brookside Gardens hosts this annual event. Try samples from caterers, tour the garden, sign up for vendor discounts, and enter the door prize raffle for over $5,000 in prizes and services. Back, Beethoven & The Boys  Rockville Concert Band performs a classic pops concert. Nov. 19 at 3 p.m. at Fitzgerald Theatre, 603 Edmonston Drive, Rockville. Free and open to the public. A $5 donation is welcome.

Avanti Orchestra  Conducted by Pablo Saelzer and featuring pianist Yi-Yang Chen, the orchestra perform Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1. and Dvorak Symphony No. 6. Nov. 19 at 4 p.m. at Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center, 7995 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring. fmmc.org. Free admission.

Klezmer & Swing with Seth Kibel Quartet  Enjoy an evening of Klezmer music and a few selections from the American Songbook. Community Stories Festival  Docs in Progress’ annual Community Stories Festival highlights the stories of people, places, and events from our  community.
