Website Work

We want MyMCMedia.org to be the place you turn to find and make media in Montgomery County.

Everyday you will find a rundown of the day’s activities and events on our website’s calendar (located along the right side of the home page). We often link posts from the website to our Facebook and Twitter pages in order to keep our readers in touch with what is happening in and around Montgomery County. If you haven’t already liked us, please “Facebook” us to stay in touch with MyMCMedia on a daily basis. Here’s a link to help you find us: https://www.facebook.com/MyMCMedia

Some of our top posts viewed last week on the website included information about Montgomery County’s pools, our TV schedules, NonProfit Day at MCM, our training courses and the resignation of Gaithersburg City Manager Angel Jones. Some of our most read Facebook posts: a commuter alert for motorists about a tanker that spilled milk and was causing traffic delays, a video report about Barry’s Magic Shop closing, a neighborhood post about temporary construction near the MedImmune campus, a video report from Montgomery College on the summer dinner theater series, a video of Casey Aiken’s “21 This Week” monologue, a video from Montgomery County Council’s Shaping our Future series and a simple reminder to join Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett live for a web chat, etc.

We are always interested in knowing what you want to read or watch, so please don’t hesitate to send us a note of what you like and don’t like on our site. We also are looking for contributors (citizen journalists and bloggers) to grow our site. Here’s an example post entitled: “Time Trials Kickoff” of a piece on our site sent to us from one of our citizen journalists who covered time trials for a local swim team.

On Mondays, you can find me at Montgomery County Council President Roger Berliner’s press conference. If you ever have a question you want me to ask him, please send me a note. We post the press conference in its entirety on our website as well so you can see what others are asking him too. Our search engine can help you find videos from earlier press conferences as well. Just type in the name Roger Berliner and all our previous and current posts will come up. Here’s a link to this week’s press conference video.

Last week, I also covered Montgomery County’s Planning and Housing Economic Development (PHED) committee meeting that focused on Gaithersburg’s petition to annex and rezone the Great Indoors property into the city limits. The city of Rockville is opposed to the annexation. You can watch clips from my interview with Rockville Mayor Phyllis Marcuccio about the proposed annexation and the potential impact to her city on our website. The stories include: Rockville Mayor on Gaithersburg Annexation Plans (Video), Rockville Mayor on Gaithersburg Annexation (Video), Rockville May Change its View on Borders (Video)

I also spent some time with Jessica McFadden who is known to her readers as “A Parent in Silver Spring.” McFadden’s blog is popular with parents in Montgomery County and she is a delight. Here’s a link to our story “A Parent in Silver Spring (Video)”.

The Silver Spring Blues Festival was our biggest story last week with nearly 20 MCM staffers assigned to cover the event. Look for our coverage to start appearing on our website this week.

We have welcomed some new interns at MCM this summer and hope to introduce you to them in the coming weeks with their own blog postings, etc.
