Weather Alert: Flash Flood Watch, Severe Thunderstorm Watch, Hurricane Arthur

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Montgomery County. Severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening.

The National Weather Service (NWS) reports that Tropical Storm Arthur strengthened overnight and was upgraded to a hurricane early this morning (July 3). Hurricane Arthur is forecast to move past North Carolina’s Outer Banks tonight (July 3).
Hurricane watches and warnings, along with Tropical Storm watches and warnings, remain in effect from New Jersey to South Carolina. In addition to coastal flooding, dangerous rip currents will impact much of the East Coast through this Fourth of July weekend because of Hurricane Arthur.
The NWS has issued a flash flood watch for Montgomery County from 1 p.m. today (July 3) through late tonight. According to the watch, tropical moisture will remain over the area through most of tonight. Showers and thunderstorms are likely, especially late in the afternoon. Rainfall rates in heavier showers may exceed two inches per hour.
