“We Need Congress to Act” (Video)

Area leaders and the business community are worried about the impacts on the local economy if sequestration goes in effect on March 1. Maryland has 130,000 federal workers whose salaries could be cut 20 percent due to furloughs and in fiscal year 2012, Montgomery County alone had $5 billion in prime federal contracting awards that may be adversely affected by the sequester.

MyMCMedia’s Sonya Burke reports that officials say the time for action is now.

A top official at Northrop Grumman Corporation wrote Leggett earlier this month urging him to contact President Obama and the congressional delegation about this issue. Erik Buice, health systems management vice president, noted that the aerospace and defense industry has produced a website proving resources about sequestration.
