Friday, March 22

Rockville International Night: The city of Rockville hosts a night of fun and entertainment to celebrate the difference cultures that make up the city. The evening will include dance performances and traditional clothing displays. Also, unique and traditional foods will be available to sample. Friday, March 22 6. p.m. F. Heathers The Musical: The Rockville Musical Theatre’s production of the musical based on the 1989 film abut Westerberg High and a group of three girls all named Heather who rule the school. Misfit Veronica Sawyer and her new boyfriend J.D. plan to eliminate the Heathers. Recommended for ages 15 and older. Runs through March 24. Strathmore East County Strings:  Now in year 4, Strathmore presents a gala concert performed by East County Strings, a collaboration with Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra, Montgomery County Public Schools and Montgomery County Dept of Recreation. 140-160 string musicians from 10 middle schools combine to form a string orchestra which performs a spectacular spring concert, this year at the Music Center at Strathmore. Friday, March 22 at 7 p.m. The Music Center at Strathmore. Murder at the Mansion Dessert Theatre: Written by Dean Fiala, I Remember Murder is about Detective Virginia Tibbs who is on vacation and responds to sounds of a gunshot from the nearby estate, only to find the family patriarch dead and the family at a loss for what to do next. With the local sheriff indisposed, Virginia convinces the family that the smartest course for finding the killer is to recall their actions and whereabouts leading up to the gunshot. Surrounded by a house full of suspects, all with suspect memories, Virginia must employ all of her wits and experience to flush out the killer before there’s another murder to remember. Lauren Mitchell: Tampa Bay blues singer Lauren Mitchel performs at BlackRock’s Friday Night Series.  Friday, March 22 from 8 to 10 p.m. BlackRock Center for the Arts, 12901 Town Commons Drive, Germantown. For more information, click here. $25-$45.

Oil: In five separate but connected playlets, a single mother named May defies the odds to provide for her daughter Amy by any means necessary. From Cornwall to Tehran, London, Baghdad, and back, the mother-daughter power struggle evolves and shifts, even as the resources that fuel it (and the rest of the world) begin to dwindle. Rochelle Rice at AMP: A celebrated voice in the DC music scene, Rochelle Rice returns to AMP with her unique, jazzy take on pop and R&B. Named “Best Jazz Vocalist” by Washington City Paper, and an alumna of Strathmore’s prestigious Artist in Residence program, Rice is classically trained and has performed on some of the most esteemed stages in the area. BSO Music Box at AMP: The half-hour-long concerts are recommended for ages 6 months to 3 years. Maria Broom hosts the concerts which are engaging and interactive and feature a small ensemble of musicians of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Prior to the concert, the room fills with a range of musical, creative, and fun activities for babies and families.. Farmers Markets: Kensington’s farmers market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kensington Train Station, 3701 Howard Ave. Click here for more information. Gaithersburg’s Main Street Farmers and Artists Market takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Main Street Park and Pavilion, 301 Main St. Click here for more information. Irish Heritage Music and Dance Festival: Celebrate Irish Heritage Month with local dancers and musicians. The program features: The Bog Band, a group a young musicians and a dance troupe from a local dance school: Culkin School of Dance. An Irish dance lesson will be taught at the end of the performance. Irish for a Day Celebration with Siobhán O’Brien:  Hailing from Limerick, Ireland, Siobhán O’Brien will perform Irish music with guitar and harmonica and voice in the lobby of the Chevy Chase Library in honor of Irish Heritage Month. BSO presents Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in Concer: Conductor Jeffrey Schindler leads the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in the score of the film as it is projected onto a giant screen. Lonesome River Band: This band sets the standard for Bluegrass music. Five-time International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Banjo Player of the Year Sammy Shelor leads the group that is constantly breaking new ground in acoustic music. Film Screening: BlackRock presents a pair of short films by Pam Maus followed by a discussion. The first film, From the Second Wave to the Tidal Wave traces the arc of the modern feminist movement from the “Second Wave” of the 1960s to the present day “Tidal Wave” of feminism. The second film, NextStepRun! tells the stories of four women running for elective office in their respective local House districts during the 2014 midterm elections.  Sunday, March 24 from 6 to 8 p.m.  At BlackRock Center for the Arts, 12901 Town Commons Drive, Germantown. Festival of Children’s Choirs:  Strathmore Children’s Chorus hosts the Children’s Chorus of Washington, Roanoke Valley Children’s Choir, and Shenandoah Valley Children’s Choir for a concert that features each organization’s top ensembles separately and combined. The choirs will sing a broad variety of music, including compositions by Sean Ivory and Paul Caldwell, Srul Irving Glick, Wallace Hornady, and Philip Silvey. The Portland Cello Project: the Portland Cello Project performs the Radiohead’s OK Computer album. The all-star cellists of the Portland Cello Project, led by artistic director Douglas Jenkins, perform a version of “Karma Police”.
