Friday, March 1

Young Artist Award Concert: The City of Gaithersburg and the Kentlands Community Foundation present the annual Young Artist Award, a juried competition culminating in a concert for the top prize winners. Once:  Set in contemporary Dublin, a street guitarist is about to give up on his dreams when he meets a curious woman who wants to know all about him. The two embark on a remarkable music-making journey that includes a group of unlikely companions. This musical is based on the 2006 film which won an Oscar for Best Original Song. Saturday, March 2

Saturday Day Jam Session:  Junior music aficionados spend Saturday mornings singing, playing, and preparing for a lifetime of music appreciation. Strathmore’s kid-friendly series features renowned jazz singer Rochelle Rice and multi-instrumentalist Seth Kibel. Odetta Holmes’ music and commitment to civil rights influenced many artists who came after her. Kids learn the music of Odetta and explore the role that music plays in major social justice movements. This performance is sensory-friendly. Kids Sing America with LEA:  Renowned vocalist LEA performs “Vote for Me!”, a new high-energy children’s show that gets kids signing about voting, community service, inclusion and democracy. Tim Whalen Quintet:  Jazz pianist Tim Whalen and his quintet bring a night of jazz to the Arts Barn stage. Tim is an in-demand jazz pianist, composer & arranger living in Washington, DC. The quintet features Whalen (piano), Xavier Perez (saxophone), Paul Pieper (guitar), Tom Baldwin (bass), and Shareef Taher (drums). Reykjavik: Rorschach Theatre presents this play by Steve Yockey, directed by Rick Hammerly about James who is visiting Reykjavik for the Northern Lights, but the lights are not there. Instead he ventures into the 24-hour dark of the Icelandic winter and finds himself entangled with dangerous strangers, suspicious lovers, malevolent birds and the mysterious Huldufólk. The Gondoliers: The Victorian Lyric Opera Company presents this Gilbert & Sullivan story of two gondoliers who discover that one is actually the king of the far-off land of Baritaria. American Girl Live:  This original musical celebrates the power of girls and strength of friendship.
