Friday, Aug. 24 

Outdoor Film Festival: Black Panther The 22nd annual Comcast Outdoor Film Festival continues through Sunday, Aug. 24-26 at Strathmore. The free event raises funds for NIH Children’s Charities and includes music, food and children’s activities. Saturday, Aug. 25

Tinker Bell  Directed by Nick Olcott, this adaptation for the stage by Patrick Flynn tells the story of Peter Pan from Tinker Bell’s point of view. Recommended for all ages. MBT Gaithersburg Open House Meet Metropolitan Ballet Theatre staff and faculty and learn about fall classes in ballet, jazz, hip hop, tap, contemporary and more. BlackRock Art Exhibits  Two exhibits are currently on display. The Kay Gallery exhibit titled Transcolorations includes works by Jon Malis which explore how computers interpret color. The Natural Abstractions solo show by Julius Kassovic is on display in the Terrace Gallery. Both exhibits continue through Aug. 25. Sunday, Aug. 26

Argentine Tango Dance & Lessons  The first lesson is a Tango lesson at 6:30 p.m. and the second lesson is a Milonga lesson at 7:30 p.m. These lessons are multi-level so anyone is encouraged to attend. A social dance follows the lessons and runs until 11 p.m. Aug. 26 from 6:30 – 11 p.m. in the Ballroom Back Room at Glen Echo Park. 7300 MacArthur Boulevard. glenechopark.org $15.

Contra & Square Dance Contra dance is a type of folk dance for all ages and a social dance in the most literal sense.  You do not need to bring a partner. Experienced and new dancers will find a warm and welcoming community. Most evenings feature a variety of traditional American contras and two waltzes, plus occasional squares, circle mixers, or other couple dances, all performed to energetic live music with skilled and enthusiastic callers from all over the country.  There is a beginner’s orientation session at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 from 7:30-10:30 p.m. in the Bumper Car Pavilion at Glen Echo Park. 7300 MacArthur Boulevard. glenechopark.org $10.
