Watershed Sustainability Center Opens on Earth Day (Photos)
The Pepco Watershed Sustainability Center opens to the public on Earth Day. The center includes the energy-efficient house designed and built by students and faculty from the University of Maryland that won first place in the 2011 U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon on the National Mall.
PHI (Pepco Holdings, Inc.) acquired the house in 2012 and worked with the student team to relocate it to the 5,000-square-foot site adjacent to Pepco’s Rockville Service Center at 201 West Gude Drive.
Some of the speakers expected for the April 22 dedication ceremony include David M. Velazquez, PHI executive vice president, power delivery; David Costello, deputy secretary, Maryland Department of Environment; Dr. Eric Wachsman, director, University of Maryland Energy Research Center; Dr. Beth McGee, Senior Water Quality Scientist, Chesapeake Bay Foundation; Karen Lefkowitz, vice president, business transformation, PHI.
