Water Main Break in Rockville

The City of Rockville Department of Public Works has been working to repair a water main break on Watts Branch Parkway near Hurley Avenue since 6 a.m. this morning.

A significant number of homes are experiencing low water pressure as a result of the break, however no homes are without water. In addition, crews have temporarily closed Watts Branch Parkway while they repair the main.

City crews have isolated the break and expect normal water system pressure to return within a few hours.

Officials also offered some tips for residents who notice their water may be discolored.

“Repairs, disruptions and maintenance to water mains may cause water to be discolored,” city officials said in a statement. “If this occurs, run the cold water for a few minutes to flush out any discolored water from your pipes. This disruption also may cause air in the line, causing water to spurt from faucets or appear cloudy. To force trapped air from the water system, open a faucet located on the top floor of your home for a minute or so. Then, open other faucets, one at a time, working from the highest to the lowest. These conditions are temporary and should clear up in less than 24 hours.”
