Washington Spirit Take on Chicago Red Stars

The Washington Spirit (6-4-2, 20 points) face off against the league’s number one ranked Chicago Red Stars (11-6-1, 22 points) today at 7 p.m. at the Maryland SoccerPlex.

The Chicago Red Stars have only lost one game all season and are ranked number one in the National Women Soccer League (NWSL). In fact, the Red Stars have only allowed 12 goals all season and Chicago’s backline will be further bolstered with the return of World Cup defender Julie Johnston.

Third ranked Washington Spirit should benefit from the return of three crucial players: Ashlyn Harris, Ali Krieger and Francisca Ordega. Dunn, who has been with the team all season and has scored eight goals, will look for midfielder Amanda Da Costa and Ordega to provide support on the attack against a very strong Chicago Red Stars backline.

Both teams feature some of the best defensive and offensive players in the league and the game this Saturday will be an intense battle for the top spot in the league.
