The Washington Spirit is officially heading to the Nationals Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) finals after Francisca Ordega scored the game winning goal in a 2-1 overtime victory over the Chicago Red Stars at a packed stadium at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds on Sept. 30th.

It was perfect timing for U.S. Women’s National Team star Ali Krieger who scored the first goal in the match for the Spirit with a header following an aerial pass from Shelina Zadorsky, according to a news release.

“It was a team win and you could see that from the goals that we scored. They involved the entire team,” Krieger said. “That’s what’s been so great about the season for us. We play for each other, we respect each other, and you can see that in how we perform,” she said.

The Spirit is scheduled to face-off against the Western New York Flash in the title match on Sunday, at the BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, TX at 5 p.m.
