Washington Adventist Hospital Recognized with National Awards for Heart Care

Adventist HealthCare Washington Adventist Hospital received two awards from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) and Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) for excellence in heart care for its cardiac program.
STS awarded the hospital with the highest possible Three-Star rating for coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) and aortic valve replacement surgery (AVR). According to a news release, Washington Adventist Hospital is among the top two percent of hospitals nationwide to receive the highest ratings for both procedures.
“The Three-Star rating in heart surgery demonstrates that our patients receive the best possible care and have excellent outcomes,” Dr. Paul Massimiano, program director of cardiac surgery at Adventist HealthCare Washington Adventist Hospital said. “Our team of experienced, skilled and compassionate experts is dedicated to continuing the hospital’s legacy of high-quality heart surgery,” he said.
The hospital was also one of two hospitals from the DC metro area to receive Blue Cross Blue Shield’s Blue Distinction+ designation for expertise and efficiency in providing cardiac care.
“The Blue Distinction+ designation establishes that our cardiac patients experience fewer complications, better survival rates and enhanced techniques,” Dr. Michael Chen, medical director of the hospital’s catheterization lab, said.
Erik Wangsness is the president of Adventist Healthcare Washington Adventist Hospital.
“We are pleased to again receive these national distinctions honoring our cardiac team’s long-standing commitment to providing our patients with the highest quality heart care possible,” Wangsness said.
