Wanted: Golden Shovel Award Nominations (VIDEO)

It’s been a long winter, some say never ending, with record cold temperatures and snowfall after snowfall.

Now county officials want to honor the unsung heroes in our communities who went above and beyond the call of duty when it came to helping clear our sidewalks of snow and ice.

Montgomery County Councilmember Nancy Floreen is bringing back the SAFE (Sidewalks Are For Everyone) Golden Shovel Awards to recognize county residents who made a difference to others during the long winter months.

As Floreen noted, you can find nominations form online at: Safe Sidewalks/Golden Shovel Award Nomination form.

These nomination forms also are available in The Gazette newspaper.

Mailed nominations can also be sent to:

Montgomery County Council
SAFE/Golden Shovel Award
100 Maryland Avenue, Rockville, MD 20850

To send by email, provide all the information requested in the nomination form to: councilmember.floreen@montgomerycountymd.gov

Floreen (see video below) said she has already heard many stories of how people helped each other out this winter.

The deadline for nominations is March 31.
