WalletHub Ranks Maryland Second Most Charitable State
Maryland is ranked the second most charitable state according to finance website WalletHub. The state of Utah ranked number one.
WalletHub compared the 50 states across two key dimensions and 14 metrics. The dimensions include; “Volunteering & Service” and “Charitable Giving”.
A score for “Volunteering & Service” was based on seven key metrics including; volunteer rate, volunteer retention rate, volunteer hours per capita, community service requirement for high school graduation, share of population collecting or distributing food, share of population collecting or distributing clothes, and share of population fundraising or selling items to raise money.
A score for “Charitable Giving” was based on seven key metrics including; share of income donated, share of population donating time and/or money, number of public charities per capita, charity regulations, number of Feeding America Food Banks per capita, and percentage of sheltered homeless.
Maryland ranked third for “Volunteering & Service” and fourth for “Charitable Giving”.
