Wallethub Ranks Maryland 8th for Political Engagement Among Black Americans

A study conducted by WalletHub finds that Maryland ranks eighth for political engagement among black Americans. Since February is Black History Month, and with election season in full swing, WalletHub analysts used six metrics to determine where in the United States black Americans are most active in the political process.

The six metrics include, voter turnout and voter registration during the most recent presidential elections; and also proportional representations of black Americans in state legislatures and national conventions.

The study ranked Maryland first in proportional representation of black Americans in national party conventions, third for black voter turnout for the 2014 midterm elections, fifth in black voter registration for the 2014 midterm elections, 12th for voter turnout for the 2012 presidential election, 14th in proportional representation of black Americans in state legislature, and 16th in black voter registration for the 2012 presidential elections.

The study’s sample only includes 48 states, Idaho and Montana were not incorporated because of data limitations. You can view the full study on WalletHub’s website.
