Verizon Employee Assaulted During Attempted Armed Robbery, Police Say
An attempted armed robbery is under investigation after two suspects entered a Verizon store and assaulted an employee, according to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).
The incident occurred on Tuesday, Nov. 17 just before 2:30 p.m. Detectives from the Major Crimes Division say two suspects attempted to gain access to the back room of a Verizon store located off Muncaster Mill Road in Derwood. The suspects also implied that they were armed. However, they “were unable to gain access to that room and fled without obtaining any property,” according to MCPD.
Police said the assaulted employee was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Surveillance video released by investigators shows the two suspects entering the store, and fleeing in a black 2020 Volkswagen R-Line four-door sedan.
