Jeep Fire in Poolesville

Fireworks Blow Up Car; Charges Pending

Charges are pending for the person responsible for a vehicle fire caused by fireworks.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue crews and the Montgomery County police department responded to Hunting Quarter Road in Poolesville Thursday morning after a park official from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources found the damaged jeep.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was likely caused by a detonating mortar after fireworks discharged from the car.

Investigators believed that at least two dozen people were present at the time of the incident, however, instead of calling for help, spectators tried to put out the fire with an extinguisher.

No injuries were reported, according to Pete Piringer, spokesperson for MCFRS. The damage is estimated at more than $5,000.
