2PM Live Streaming Governor O’Malley Hurricane Press Conference

Governor Martin O’Malley will hold another a press conference today, OCTOBER 29 at 2PM at the Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) to provide an update on Hurricane Sandy as the storm approaches the area. At his 2PM press conference Governor O’Malley stressed the need for residents to stay inside and “hunker down” as the storm will beat down on Maryland for 24 – 36 hours.
He asked people to stay off the roads and announced that various bridges in Maryland will soon be closed to traffic including the Bay Bridge and Tydings Bridge.
He announced there will be no early Voting on Tuesday.

Governor O’Malley stressed that overnight the weather forecast turned for the worse. The storm is gaining in intensity and is predicted to make landfall in Maryland. He anticipates power outages in our area to begin this evening.

Governor O’Malley advises all residents to stay inside for the next 24 to 36 hours.

23 shelters are open accross Maryland for persons who are displaced by Hurricane Sandy.

When asked about the current conditions in Ocean City, O’Malley reported that water covers all the streets in downtown Ocean City. Also, about half of the fishing pier is gone as a result of Hurricane Sandy.

The tidal surge in the Chesapeake Bay will be larger than anticipated. Flooding will be a major issue.

Governor O’Malley said, “My biggest concern right now is the potential for loss of life.”
