United Way Partners With Local Nonprofits to Provide Free Tax Return Services
The United Way of the National Capitol Area (United Way NCA) in partnership with four area nonprofits will provide free tax return services for the 2016 tax season. The service is part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), which seeks to provide assistance for low to moderate income individuals and families.
Timothy Johnson is the vice president of Community Impact for United Way NCA.
“Over the past eight years, our free tax preparation services have helped working families and individuals in the area receive more than $84 million in tax refunds and credits owed to them. Our goal is to ensure that all of our residents have access to free, professional and accurate tax preparation services,” Johnson said in a news release.
United Way NCA will partner with Enterprise Development Group (ECDC), Capital Area Asset Builders, Coalition for the Advancement of Financial Education Montgomery (CAFE) and the United Way NCA’s Financial Empowerment Center at Prince George’s Community College to provide tax preparation assistance for families filing their 2015 tax returns. Those who made less than $54,000 in 2015 may be eligible to have their taxes prepared for free and qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).
