U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos Visits Montgomery County Correctional Facility
U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos joined Montgomery County’s Department of Correction and Rehabilitation Director Robert Green and Montgomery College President Dr. Derionne Pollard to learn more about education and workforce development at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in Boyds.
In recognition of National Reentry Week, DeVos engaged with inmates who were taking classes as they prepare themselves for a return to society, according to a news release.
“My visit to Montgomery County Correctional Facility was encouraging and inspiring,” Secretary DeVos said in a statement. “MCCF offers integrated, onsite education and career development services through its American Job Center. This center provides full-time GED, vocational and special education programs, and assists incarcerated individuals with skills assessments, job searches and further education planning before their release.”
Representatives from WorkSource Montgomery and Montgomery County Public Schools were also in attendance.
Reentry Week is recognized by correctional facilities and their jurisdictions across the country to support the role of education in assisting those leaving the justice system.
