Two Men Charged in 2013 Aspen Hill Homicide
The Montgomery County Cold Case Section has brought charges against two men for a November 2013 homicide in Aspen Hill, a Montgomery County police statement said.
Trevon Derick Davis, 28, of the 600 block of Romsford Drive in Hyattsville, and Bryan Donte Byrd, 28, of the 3000 block of 25th Street Northeast, Washington, D.C., face first-degree murder charges for the death of Alexander Benson Buie, 34, on Nov. 6, 2013, police said.
Investigators have also obtained an arrest warrant that charges Vaughn Darvel Bellamy, 28, of the 18700 block of Roxbury Road in Hagerstown, with first-degree murder, armed robbery, and first-degree burglary, police said. Bellamy is incarcerated at the Maryland Correctional Institution in Hagerstown, for an unrelated homicide that occurred in 2014, police said. Bellamy has yet to be served with the Montgomery County arrest warrant.
About 10:50 p.m. Nov. 6, 2013, Wheaton police district officers responded for the report of a shooting inside a home in the 13400 block of Grenoble Drive, police said. Officers arrived and found Buie suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Buie was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
The Grenoble Drive home was listed as a “sober living home,” according to a WTOP report published shortly after the shooting.
The preliminary investigation by detectives revealed that three men forced their way into the home. At least one man was armed with a handgun, police said. The men confronted three men in the home, one of whom was Buie, police said. After a struggle, Buie was shot.
The men then fled. Neither of the other two victims was injured, police said.
During the investigation, detectives identified Davis, Byrd and Bellamy as the suspects in Buie’s homicide. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Davis and Byrd charging them with first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, and armed robbery.
On March 6, 2019, Byrd was arrested in Washington, D.C., on the strength of the Montgomery County arrest warrant. Byrd was extradited to Montgomery County on March 13. He was released after posting a $150,000 bond.
On March 20, 2019, Davis was arrested in Washington, D.C., on the strength of the Montgomery County arrest warrant. He remains incarcerated in the District of Columbia pending extradition to Montgomery County.
Bond information for Davis will be available once he has been extradited to Montgomery County. Bond information for Bellamy will be available once he has been served with the Montgomery County arrest warrant.
