UPDATE: Man Dies in Car Wreck on Georgia Ave at ICC

Update (Sept. 12): Police identified the man who died in the multi-vehicle collision as 32-year-old Rene Hernandez Jr. of Olney.

UPDATE (Sept. 7): Police released a statement Saturday morning, about the multi-vehicle collision that occurred in the Olney area on Georgia Avenue at the Inter-county Connector (ICC). According to police, one person has died from the collision.

Pete Piringer, the spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel, said more than two dozen rescue workers responded to the scene of the collision before 9 p.m. and evaluated multiple people for injuries.

Police say a 2014 Infinity Q50S was heading North on Georgia Avenue and a 2009 Honda Civic was heading South on Georgia Avenue. The investigation has found that the Honda was attempting to turn left onto the entrance ramp of eastbound MD-200 (the ICC) when the two cars collided. Two additional cars were involved in the collision when the Infinity struck a Ford Explorer that was heading North on Georgia Avenue and the Honda struck a Dodge Challenger that was heading north on Georgia Avenue, according to the police.

The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say they will release his identity after his family is notified. A 25-year-old passenger in the Infinity was transported to a local hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

The drivers of the three other cars involved in the collision were not injured, according to the police.

The driver of the Dodge Challenger is identified as 26-year-old Noe Daniel Suriel of Weller Road in Silver Spring. The driver of the Ford Explorer is identified as 36-year-old  Regino Andres Gonzalez Pena of Clopper Road in Gaithersburg.  The driver of the Infinity is identified as 25-year-old Camilo Jose Ahumada Serje of Fishermans Court in Olney.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.

Montgomery County police tweeted Friday evening that northbound and southbound of Georgia Avenue at MD 200 (the Intercounty Connector) has been closed to investigate a serious multi-vehicle collision that occurred before 9 p.m.

Pete Piringer, the spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services, tweeted that more than two dozen rescue workers were on scene evaluating several people who were facing serious injuries. At least one person has been evaluated for traumatic injuries, Piringer tweeted.

It’s unclear how many people have been injured. Police are continuing to investigate this collision.
