Update: No Foul Play Found in Fatal House Fire in Chevy Chase

Update, Tuesday: Montgomery County police have determined no foul play was involved in the fatal house that claimed two lives in Chevy Chase last week.

The victims have been identified as John Ashton Randolph, 61, and Inga Randolph, 94, who both lived in the home.

The Office of the Chief Medical Officer determined their causes of death to be smoke inhalation and thermal burns.

Original Post: Two people died in a residential fire in Chevy Chase early Wednesday morning, a fire spokesman said.

The fire at the home, in the 4900 block of Western Avenue, started about 1 a.m., according to Pete Piringer, spokesman for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services.

When units arrived, the home was engulfed in flames, he said. Although firefighters arrived, they quickly knocked down the fire and found two occupants in different sections of the two-story home.

The fire remains under investigation. A “high volume of materials” were in the home, Piringer said.

The two victims are the first and second fatalities the county has recorded in a residential fire this year, he said.

Piringer’s Twitter feed provides arresting photos of fire.

Montgomery County Fire Chief Scott Goldstein briefed reporters on the fire:
