Turtle Island Quartet to Perform at BlackRock (VIDEO)

The Turtle Island Quartet performs Saturday, November 8 at 8 p.m. at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown. In its BlackRock debut, Grammy Award winning Turtle Island Quartet presents Birth of the Cool—celebrating what became known as “Cool Jazz,” marked by the embodiment of cool, Miles Davis, along with his colleagues Gil Evans and Gerry Mulligan, as well as the Modern Jazz Quartet and Dave Brubeck. In addition to their masterful jazz string quartet interpretations from the Birth of the Cool recording, Turtle Island offers a program of perennial favorites such as Dave Brubeck’s Blue Rondo A La Turk, Gerry Mulligan’s Bernie’s Tune, Miles Davis’s dreamy Miles Ahead, and the Modern Jazz Quartet’s darker Django.

Tickets are $28 and may be purchased at BlackRock Center for the Arts website or by phone at 240.912.1058 . BlackRock is located at 12901 Town Commons Drive, Germantown near the intersection of Middlebrook Rd. and Route 118.

A second performance is scheduled for Sunday, November 9 at 3 p.m.

There will be a free pre-performance discussion with the Quartet for ticket holders at 7:30 p.m.
