Three Days in Bethesda: President Trump’s 72-Hour Stay at Walter Reed
72 hours after his stunning arrival and admittance to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, President Trump says he is “feeling really good” and is checking out.
After tweeting early Friday morning that he and First Lady Melania Trump had tested positive for COVID-19, he was airlifted by helicopter to Walter Reed Friday evening.

Then, amid conflicting reports, Trump’s physician, Dr. Sean Conley, released a letter on his White House stationary that said the President had “made substantial progress” but added that Trump was “not out of the woods yet.”

Next, he shocked many, including even some doctors, by getting into his motorcade Sunday for a chance to wave to and thank his supporters who had lined the street, waving flags and signs.

But County Executive Marc Elrich was not pleased to see so many Trump supporters as well as people connected to the Presidential motorcade not necessarily keeping proper social distancing or wearing masks. He tweeted out, “We take COVID-19 seriously in @MontgomeryCoMD. We ask our residents to act responsibly with family & friends and we expect the same from our guests. Please think about those caring for you and stay in the hospital until you can return to the White House.”
Dear Mr. President,
We take COVID-19 seriously in @MontgomeryCoMD. We ask our residents to act responsibly with family & friends and we expect the same from our guests. Please think about those caring for you and stay in the hospital until you can return to the White House.

Those crowds remained Monday morning in hopes of catching a glimpse of the President should he be released from Walter Reed to return to the White House.

At 2:30 Monday afternoon, Trump tweeted out that he will be leaving the hospital at 6:30 p.m. His words, “Don’t be afraid of Covid” have drawn heavy criticism for being a dangerous message about a virus that has so far claimed over 210.000 lives in the U.S.
I will be leaving the great Walter Reed Medical Center today at 6:30 P.M. Feeling really good! Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life. We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge. I feel better than I did 20 years ago!
