Troopers Investigate Fatal Collision in Chevy Chase
Troopers are investigating a fatal collision that occurred overnight on the I-495 ramp to Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase.
According to the Maryland State Police Department, troopers responded to the report of a single vehicle collision on the Outer Loop of I-495 at Connecticut Avenue at 2:46 a.m. on Sunday morning.
Police said the 23-year-old driver of a 2005 Scion TC was ejected from the vehicle and died from his injuries at the scene. Police have identified the driver as Jose Leonel Bonilla Torres of Herndon, Virginia.
According to police, the preliminary investigation indicates that Torres was attempting to exit from I-495 at Connecticut Avenue when the vehicle traveled off the ramp and struck a bridge abutment sending it airborne to the roadway below. Police said the vehicle landed on Kensington Parkway, where the driver was ejected and fatally injured. Police said alcohol is believed to be a factor to the collision.
