Troopers Expect Higher Traffic Volume on Labor Day Weekend

With lower gas prices this Labor Day weekend, troopers say they expect to see an increase in vehicle traffic along Maryland roads.

You may see more troopers on the road, too.

Over the three day holiday weekend, troopers plan to conduct high visibility traffic enforcement across the state. Operation SHOWBOAT (SHOre-Wide Bullseye On Aggressive Traffic) and Operator Millipede are focusing on aggressive driving, crash reduction, and impaired driving, police said.

According to troopers, Operation SHOWBOAT will target its efforts along U.S. Route 50 from Anne Arundel County to Ocean City and U.S. Route 13 in Wicomico, Somerset and Worcester counties. Operation Millipede is focused on I-95 from the Delaware line to the Virginia line.

Troopers say these high visibility enforcement efforts are designed to reduce the number of motor vehicle crashes in which speed, alcohol and other driving violations are contributing factors.

Police want to remind motorists that the most important objective when traveling is to arrive safely. They say the best ways to accomplish this is to “know before you go, remove distractions from the vehicle, and never drink and drive.”
