Transportation Department Plans Forum to Give Overview of Traffic Relief Plan
The Maryland Department of Transportation is moving forward with a forum Dec. 13 to provide an overview of the $7.6 billion public-private partnership to relieve congestion on I-270 and I-495.
The forum will take place at the BWI Marriott and is open to industry professionals. Industry responses to the state’s request for information on the project are due Dec. 20.
According to a Transportation Department news release, Secretary Pete Rahn said: “Maryland is thrilled to engage the most innovative thinkers in private industry to help us deliver traffic relief for hundreds of thousands of drivers every day.”
One presentation at the forum will cover an overview of the project, which will add four express lanes (two in each direction) to the Capital Beltway (I-495) and I-270. Another will cover Maryland’s P3 laws.

Rahn visited the Montgomery County Council last week, and filled in some of the gaps in councilmembers’ knowledge in the project. For example, Rahn said Gov. Larry Hogan expects the project to solve the bottleneck over the American Legion Bridge.
