Town of Barnesville Mourns Passing of Elizabeth Tolbert
The town of Barnesville is mourning the loss of its longtime mayor Elizabeth Tolbert, known to many in town as “Miss Lib.” Tolbert died Feb. 17 at age 88.
She served as mayor for 30 years in the town that is located near Sugarloaf Mountain in the northern part of Montgomery County. Although she led a town of only 200 people, she became a political icon known throughout Montgomery County and the state. She even served as President of the Maryland Municipal League. She leaves a legacy of understanding people, policy and politics.
