‘Total Loss’: Barn Fire in Barnesville Causes $2 Million in Damages, Fire Officials Say

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) responded to a large barn fire on Peach Tree Road in Barnesville shortly before midnight Monday evening, fire officials said.

Crews found heavy fire engulfing the entire 500 x 100 foot barn, Battalion Chief Jay Blake said. No animals were inside and no one was injured. The barn was divided into three sections, filled with tools, equipment and hay bales, Blake said.

The barn was in a non-hydrant area, he said, so water was an issue. MCFRS shuttled tankers carrying at least 3,000 gallons of water to the barn.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and under investigation. MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer wrote on Twitter that the fire is a “total loss” and is estimated to cost upwards of $2 million in damages.
