The National Weather Service for the Baltimore-Washington area declared the storm packed a tornado, rated as an EF-0. EF stands for “Enhanced Fujita,” which is named for Tetsuya Fujita, who researched severe storms. A “0” rating means winds at 65 to 85 mph.
On Northwood Avenue, the storm broke off a large branch onto the Magalski’s home.
“Our super nanny got the girls out safely. She lives down the street, so she took them to her house,” said Jennifer Magalski, a mother of two.
She said her children and the nanny were in the kitchen getting a snack when they heard a loud bang, the sound of a branch of a large tree hitting the house, a two-story Cape Cod.
Now, the branch covers the house, almost like a bridal veil.

Around the corner, Dan Dorfman was luckier. The storm took out part of an oak and a maple tree. A neighbor with a chainsaw was helping him slice up the trunk of a large tree.
One Dennis Avenue house looked like it lost part of its roof and the front facade was coming off.
