Thursday’s COVID-19 Health Metrics Show Increase in Transmission Rate
Montgomery County’s community transmission rate for COVID-19 continues to increase. As of Thursday, Montgomery County is reporting a rate of 57.6 new cases per 100,000 persons in the past seven days.
Thursday, the Montgomery County Council held a public hearing and voted on the new health regulation requiring face masks in public indoor areas where there is substantial COVID-19 community transmission. The County Council unanimously voted to pass the regulation.
Thursday, 115 new cases of COVID-19 in the county were reported, bringing the cumulative total to 72,596.
Montgomery County averaged 8.2 new cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 residents Thursday, according to the data from the county’s COVID-19 information portal.
Wednesday there were 32 patients hospitalized with COVID-19. This represents only 2.5% of the total hospital beds in the county.
There were no new COVID-19 fatalities reported Thursday. The death toll remains 1,583
The most important factor in slowing the spread of COVID-19 is increasing the number of persons who are vaccinated. Vaccinations are currently available to anyone 12 years of age and older. More information about COVID-19 vaccines may be found online at the COVID-19 information portal.
