‘Think About The Link’ Between Viruses and Cancer Informational Campaign (VIDEO)

Too few people understand the link between viruses and cancers. In fact when it comes to the human papillomavirus or HPV, which is known to cause six different kinds of cancers, more than half or (53%) of adults are not aware that this highly preventable virus can lead to cancer if untreated.

Lisa Hanna is the Managing Director of External Affairs with the Prevent Cancer Foundation. Dr. Susan Pankratz is the Clinical Director and Family Physician with the McCarrick Center Medical Clinic which is part of the Catholic Charities of D.C.

73% of adults are not aware that Hepatitis treatment can reduce the risk of liver cancer.

Additionally, many people have no idea that they are even in one of the high risk groups that should now be screened for for Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C, including most baby boomers. The high risk population includes baby boomers, African Americans, Hispanic Americans and Asian Americans.

You should get screened if you were born between the years 1945 – 1965.
