The Summer Games

USA Diver Cassidy Krug talks to her coach on a recent visit at the Germantown Swim Center.

The Olympics begin tonight with the opening ceremonies in London. I don’t know about you but I am excited.  Several athletes are from Montgomery County, which makes the international competition even more interesting to watch locally.

I am especially excited to watch swimmer Katie Ledecky, who is the youngest athlete on Team USA and who calls Montgomery County home.

Swimming, track and gymnastics are usually my favorite events but this year I will be also following the diving competition with keen interest since we covered the eleven USA divers  during their recent trip to Montgomery County. I was so impressed with how well spoken and friendly the divers were in person and who isn’t wowed by their athleticism off the boards?

Since I am a University of Florida alum, in addition to the local athletes, I will be rooting for the Gators.

Who are you cheering for? What’s your favorite event? What do you think of the coverage?

How did the opening ceremonies compare to Beijing? Are you in London?

We want to know.  Start a blog on our website, drop me a line here or post a comment on our Facebook or Twitter pages.  Let’s get the conversation started:   USA, USA!
