The Search for the Next MCPS Superintendent to Continue This Fall

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is scheduled to relaunch its search for a new superintendent in the fall.

MCPS Spokesperson Dana Tofig said school officials “anticipate” having a new person to lead Montgomery County’s school system by July 2016.

In May, Andrew Houlihan, the chief academic officer of the Houston Independent School District, was the “preferred candidate” to replace Starr. But on May 17, Houlihan informed the Montgomery County Board of Education he was withdrawing his application to take on this position.

This search began back in February when Dr. Joshua Starr left his post prior to the end of his contract. Larry Bowers has been serving as the school system’s interim superintendent since Starr’s departure. The school system had hired a search firm and held community meetings to find his replacement.

It’s unknown at this time if school officials will hire the same search firm or host any other public meetings.

MCPS-TV shared a story where parents, students, and community members attended public forums to express their views on what they wish to see in the next MCPS superintendent.
