The Search for Takoma Park’s Next Police Chief Begins

The search for the city of Takoma Park’s next police chief has officially begun.

As the chief executive of the city’s police department, the candidate must be willing to develop and maintain a “departmental culture that embraces a guardian mindset with transparency and accountability to build trust within the community and department, ” according to the candidate profile description on the city’s website.

Minimum qualifications needed for the job includes a bachelor’s degree with demonstrated knowledge of police department operations and public administration of local governments. Experience in an urban environment and advance training, such as the FBI National Academy or an equivalent, is preferred.

The salary range, according to the posting, is from the low to mid $100,000’s.

Applicants are encouraged to apply by Oct. 16.

The city’s former police chief, Alan Goldberg, resigned earlier this year after serving more than four years with the department.

In the meantime, Takoma Park police captains, Capt. Dan Frishkorn, Capt. Tyrone Collington and Capt. Richard Bowers, are rotating acting chief responsibilities.
