Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics for May 24

Since Friday, May 21, the Maryland Department of Health has reported 67 new cases of COVID-19 in Montgomery County — 32 Saturday, 21 Sunday and 14 Monday. The county’s cumulative case count is 70,712.

Montgomery County recorded four new coronavirus-related fatalities since Friday, May 21 — one Saturday, one Sunday, and two Monday. The death toll for the county is 1,497, which is the highest in the state.

The county has a positive test rate of 1.12% for Sunday, which is a decrease of 0.09 from Saturday’s rate of 1.21%. The county’s positivity rate is lower than 22 of the 24 jurisdictions in Maryland.

Montgomery County leads the state in total COVID-19 related fatalities (1,497) but not in total cases. Prince George’s County has 1,464 fatalities and the most coronavirus cases in the state with 84,813 cases. Baltimore County has the second-highest death toll with 1,494 fatalities and 65,435 cases.

Somerset County on the Eastern Shore has the highest per capita cases with 101.5 cases per 1,000 residents. Allegany County in the western region of the state has the second-highest cases per capita at 99.1 cases per 1,000 residents.

Maryland COVID-19 Statistics for May 24

Since Friday, May 21, the state recorded 993 new infections — 521 Saturday, 244 Sunday, and 228 Monday. The state’s cumulative case count is 458,520.

The state reported Monday that 448 patients were hospitalized across the state with the virus.

Maryland recorded 49 new coronavirus-related fatalities since Friday, May 21 — 17 Saturday, 17 Sunday, and 15 Monday — bringing the death toll to 8,831.

The state reported a positive test rate of 2.04% for tests completed Sunday. This is an increase of 0.01 from Saturday’s rate of 2.03%.
