The Big Day Blog (Photos)

The big day is here: it’s April 22 and that means showtime! We hope you will visit the MyMCMedia.org website often today to see the latest photos from around Montgomery County. You can find the photos in the right hand corner of the website under the queue, “A Day in the Life of Montgomery County.” Remember, it’s never too late to send us a photo or video. Just email your images to pix@mymcmedia.org.

12 a.m.
The day officially begins at the stroke of midnight and there is a chill in the air. The moon is almost full, there are clouds up above and the forecast for the morning (from 5 – 9 a.m.) includes a frost warning! Brr…

5 a.m.
A crisp and cold Earth Day to watch the sun rise over Montgomery County…look for photos in the next hour or so.

7:15 a.m.
Enjoyed a beautiful sunrise over the Belward Farm in Gaithersburg. On the way home, stopped at the Public Safety Headquarters where the fog was hanging over the lake and two geese were hanging out on a bench. In between, saw early morning buses, bikers and joggers beginning their Monday.

8 a.m.
Some of today’s first photos include that first cup of coffee, the newspaper in the driveway, prices at the gas pump, waiting in line for drop off at school, etc.

8:25 a.m.
We’ve already posted dozens of photos and two videos. Some of the newest shots are horses grazing in a Potomac field, commuters waiting for the train in Kensington and an idyllic backyard made for relaxing.

9 a.m.
The photos are really backing up on our site now. Latest photos include traffic on the interstate, Silver Spring Transit Center and several shots of people at work.

10 a.m.
Check out the photos of the commuters crossing White’s Ferry today. We’ve received over 234 images thusfar and several videos.

1:30 p.m.
Wow! We’ve received hundreds of photos now, including some from the County Council offices, downtown Rockville, a donut shop, an exercise class and more. Take a look at the 370 images now posted.

2 p.m.
Make that 400 images received to date.

5 p.m.
What do you think of the photos thusfar? We are still processing dozens. Some of my favorites are the shots of smiling kids, the light at the end of the escalator, the visitor at the cemetery plot of F. Scott Fitzgerald, the airplanes at the airpark and the trains. Take a look and if you haven’t already, send us a photo from your day. The email address is pix@mymcmedia.org.

4/23 (The Next Day)                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Photos are still coming in today from yesterday. Did you see the new baby at Shady Grove or the moon through the cherry blossoms? Great shots! We are so appreciative of everyone who participated and shared a slice of their life with us. Coming up:  details on a viewers’ choice photo contest.
