Teen Writers’ Club Formed at Silver Spring Library

Library officials invite all teens in the Silver Spring area who like to write fiction, nonfiction or poetry for an opportunity to develop their writing skills through the Teen Writers’ Club at the Silver Spring Library.

The workshop is open to teen writers ages 13 to 18 and is scheduled to meet twice a month on alternate Thursdays, beginning Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m., in the large meeting room 2 on the 3^rd floor.

According to a news release, the club will offer writing exercises and group discussions to help teens improve not only their writing but try new approaches. There will be constructive feedback on writing samples and advice on how to overcome obstacles.

Members will also be able to:

• Discuss how to get started on a project, including how to turn an idea into a story or poem, how to make a plan, and how to stick to it;
• Learn how to develop characters, set the scene, and keep your story going with a plot that keeps readers engaged;
• Learn how to revise your own work;
• Share your skills; participate in critiques;
• Learn how to read as a writer so you understand the techniques of authors you admire;
• Hear and meet guest writers;
• Other activities based on the interest of those in the club.

The Teen Writers’ Club is co-sponsored by the Montgomery County Library System and the Maryland Writers’ Association. The library is located at 900 Wayne Avenue in Silver Spring.
